Banksy is a famous pseudonymous graffiti artist of England :)
His artworks are on
streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world.
Banksy often use sarcasm about political and social in his graffiti works.
Banksy also draws on canvas and work on sculptures.
I saw a documentary 'Graffiti war' that even though a lot of people love Banksy and his works are very cool there are controversies over him.
First, Banksy uses stencil when drawing and writing,
however this is controversial not only because of using stencil is
considered disobeying rules of graffiti (graffiti artist must draw on the spot)
but because he's usage of stencil and some drawings/subjects are
similar to the works of French artist Blek Le Rat,
as graffiti artists should develop their own style and not follow others.
It was also problematic that Banksy did not accept
the fact that he had used Blek Le Rat's style of art.
Banksy said, "Every time I think I've painted something slightly original,
I find out that
Blek Le Rat has done it as well, only twenty years earlier."
Second, there was controversy that Banksy used
other artist called Robbo's graffiti as part of his graffiti.
In the graffiti culture, artists should never use other people's work as part of their own work without permission. Banksy said it was because Robbo's work was already destroyed by other people but it was actually tags on Robbo's work.
Tags are signatures left by other artists that they leave when they like it and it was obvious that Robbo's work had a lot of tags as it was one of most significant works and the only surviving work of Robbo.
For this, Banksy and Robbo begun a war,
which at last became Robbo's team vs Banksy's fans.
It was very interesting to see the movie about one of most famous graffiti artists.
